Child + Family Photography Portfolio
“I had the pleasure of having Tammy photograph my 17 month old in a beautiful outdoor rose garden. When she arrived she immediately got down at eye level with my little one and began talking to her and letting her look at her camera. My little one instantly felt comfortable with her new friend and was incredible cooperative when Tammy was taking pictures. Tammy was so patient working with her and managed to do an AMAZING job capturing our busy little girl! They are some of the best photos we now have. I would highly, highly recommend Tammy for any photography needs. She is professional, prompt, kind, patient, artistic and creative! We cannot wait for our next photo session. Thank you for a job well done and memories to last forever Tammy!”

Frequently Asked Questions
What are your rates for a family portrait session?
Whether you are interested in a maternity, newborn, child, couple, or family session - I keep it simple with one rate that includes a 1-hour session, editing, & delivery of your final digital images. Full details on pricing & what is included with your investment can be found here.
Where will we shoot?
Anywhere you'd like! Your backyard, living room, or favorite park are all great places to start. (You can take a look at my favorite Portrait Photography Locations for a few more ideas, too.) I’m more than happy to talk through it & help you choose a location for your shoot in Durham, Chapel Hill, or beyond the Triangle that will bring your personal vision to life.
What should we wear?
You can't go wrong with simple and classic. It is best to avoid being too matchy or wearing any visible branding. If you'd like to bring a few different clothing options to your shoot, or to discuss wardrobe with me beforehand, feel free! You can also check out my Child Portrait // Styling Tips for more advice on getting your little ones dressed for their photo session.
Do you have props that you will bring to the shoot?
I am not super big on using props, but I am all for using natural, real-life items as props during my sessions - especially child & family shoots. Giving little ones something to interact & play with during a session can do wonders to help them come to life in front of the camera (& to help me better document their unique personalities). Please take a peek at my Child Portrait // Prop Ideas for inspiration about incorporating items you might already have into your child or family session.
Can we bring our pet to the session?
My goodness, please do. They are a part of your family. (And as an added bonus, they are often great subjects.) Just please let me know ahead of time so that I can come prepared.
When should we shoot?
Generally speaking, the best light for taking portraits is either in the morning or in the two hours before sunset. That being said, I can absolutely make any time work & I am happy to consider your and your child's schedule so that we can capture everybody at their best time of day.
What happens if it rains on the day of our session?
In case of rain or inclement weather, we will reschedule for as soon as can be. I usually like to make this call either the evening before or the morning of your session, because North Carolina weather can be quite fickle. I can't tell you how many times rain has been predicted for a session & then the weather has ended up being just beautiful.
Do you offer mini sessions?
I do my best to offer mini-sessions on a designated day/location twice a year [Spring & Fall]. (Mini sessions are announced on my blog, Instagram, & Facebook accounts so please do follow along there if you would like to know when the next mini session day will be.) Otherwise, I only book full sessions throughout the year.
